Overview fot the Salkantay trek Glamping 4 days to Machu Picchu

The Premium Salkantay Trek Glamping 4 Days offers a truly exceptional adventure through some of the most spectacular landscapes in the Peruvian Andes. Throughout the journey, travelers cross dramatic mountain scenery, descend into lush tropical valleys, and experience environments so striking they feel almost cinematic. This route is considered more demanding than many traditional treks, yet every step is rewarded with extraordinary views, meaningful discovery, and a strong sense of personal achievement. To elevate the experience, each night is spent in comfortable Sky Lodge domes located in Soraypampa and Chaullay, providing a unique combination of adventure and comfort.

The journey begins on the first day with a gradual introduction to the trail, passing through expansive highland fields surrounded by majestic snow-capped peaks. The scenery sets the tone for the adventure ahead, offering impressive views while allowing time to adapt to the altitude and terrain.

On the second day, trekkers face the most challenging yet rewarding stage: the ascent to Salkantay Pass. At higher elevations, the thinner air and steady climb test endurance and determination. However, reaching the summit is an unforgettable achievement. Surrounded by towering mountains and breathtaking panoramas, the effort required to reach this point transforms into a powerful sense of accomplishment and awe.

The third day introduces a remarkable change in scenery as the trail descends into warmer and greener landscapes. The rugged mountain terrain gradually gives way to dense vegetation, flowing rivers, and the vibrant atmosphere of the cloud forest. This transition creates a refreshing contrast to the high-altitude environment and offers a new perspective on the region’s remarkable ecological diversity.

By the fourth day, anticipation builds as the journey approaches its final highlight: the majestic Machu Picchu. After days of trekking through diverse landscapes, arriving at this ancient Wonder of the World is a truly memorable moment. The sight of its timeless stone structures set against dramatic mountain backdrops makes every challenge along the way worthwhile.

The Salkantay Trek is more than a path to Machu Picchu—it is a journey of transformation. Each stage reveals new scenery, fresh perspectives, and unforgettable moments, making this one of the most rewarding trekking experiences in Peru.

4-Day Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu

The 4-Day Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu is one of the most spectacular trekking experiences in Peru. This challenging adventure takes you from the high Andes and the turquoise waters of Humantay Lake, across the impressive Salkantay Pass, and down through lush cloud forests and tropical valleys before reaching the legendary Machu Picchu.

Each day offers a dramatic change of scenery, from snow-capped mountains and high-altitude landscapes to waterfalls, coffee plantations, tropical vegetation, and the beautiful Vilcanota Valley. This trek is ideal for travelers looking for more than a traditional trip to Machu Picchu and who want to combine adventure, nature, culture, and Premium Glamping along the way.

With our Premium 4-Day Salkantay Trek, you will spend two nights in exclusive Sky Lodge Domes at Soraypampa and Chaullay, followed by a comfortable hotel stay in Aguas Calientes before your visit to Machu Picchu.

Recommended Tours

There are several options for exploring the Salkantay route, but choosing a well-organized tour is essential for a safe and enjoyable experience.

Our Premium 4-Day Salkantay Trek combines professional local guides, carefully planned logistics, comfortable accommodation, and spectacular natural landscapes. The itinerary includes highlights such as Humantay Lake, Salkantay Pass, the cloud forest, tropical valleys, Hidroelectrica, and Machu Picchu.

The Premium Glamping experience allows you to enjoy the adventure of trekking while staying in comfortable Sky Lodge Domes, making this an excellent alternative for travelers who want greater comfort without sacrificing the authentic Salkantay experience.

Weather on the 4-Day Salkantay Trek

Weather conditions can change significantly throughout the 4-Day Salkantay Trek because the route crosses several different ecological zones.

At higher elevations, particularly around Salkantay Pass, temperatures can be very cold, windy, and unpredictable. As the trail descends toward the cloud forest and Santa Teresa Valley, the climate becomes progressively warmer and more humid.

You may experience sunshine, cold temperatures, wind, rain, and changing weather conditions during the same day. Rain is possible throughout the year, particularly in the lower and tropical sections of the route.

We recommend bringing appropriate clothing for different conditions, including warm layers, waterproof clothing, trekking shoes, sun protection, and a warm sleeping bag.

How to Prepare for the 4-Day Salkantay Trek

Proper preparation is important because the Salkantay Trek is a challenging high-altitude trek.

We strongly recommend spending at least 2–3 days in Cusco or another high-altitude destination before beginning the trek to allow your body to acclimatize.

Stay well hydrated, eat properly, get enough rest, and avoid strenuous activities during your first days at altitude. During the trek, maintain a comfortable pace and listen to your body.

Regular walking, hiking, cardio exercises, and stair training before your trip can also help improve your endurance and prepare you for the long ascents and descents along the route.

Difficulty and Restrictions

The 4-Day Salkantay Trek is considered a challenging trek, mainly because of the high altitude, long hiking days, and significant elevation changes.

The most demanding section is the ascent to Salkantay Pass at approximately 4,630 m (15,190 ft). After crossing the pass, the trail descends into warmer and more humid environments.

The trek requires a good level of physical fitness. Travelers with pre-existing medical conditions, particularly heart or respiratory conditions, should consult their doctor before undertaking a high-altitude trek.

Our professional guides monitor the group throughout the journey and can provide assistance when necessary.

Your return train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo will be scheduled according to your Machu Picchu entrance time and assigned circuit, allowing sufficient time to complete your visit before departing for Ollantaytambo.
