DAY 1

Cusco, Urubamba or Ollantaytambo – Checacupe – Palcoyo Mountain Range – Stone Forest Viewpoint – Palcoyo Main Viewpoints – Return to Cusco, Urubamba or Ollantaytambo

Your Palcoyo Rainbow Mountain adventure begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Cusco, Urubamba, or Ollantaytambo. From there, we journey deep into the heart of the Peruvian Andes, passing wide valleys, traditional Quechua villages, and dramatic high-altitude landscapes as we make our way toward the Palcoyo mountain range in the Canchis Province.

Along the route, we stop to enjoy a light breakfast before continuing through scenic Andean roads where herds of alpacas and llamas often graze freely across the open plains. The changing scenery slowly reveals the raw beauty of the high Andes, with snow-capped peaks rising in the distance and colorful valleys stretching across the horizon.

Upon reaching the trailhead, we begin a gentle and rewarding walk toward the Palcoyo viewpoints. Unlike the more demanding Rainbow Mountain hike, this route is accessible and relaxed, allowing you to enjoy the journey at a comfortable pace. As you ascend, the landscape transforms into a surreal display of natural colors, revealing the famous Palcoyo mountain range with its layered red, pink, green, and gold mineral formations.

After a short walk, we arrive at the main viewpoints of Palcoyo (approximately 4,900 m / 16,076 ft). Here, you will have time to explore, take photographs, and fully absorb the breathtaking 360° views of multiple rainbow-colored mountains, the vast Andean valleys, and the unique Stone Forest rock formations nearby. This peaceful setting offers a less crowded and more intimate experience compared to other rainbow mountain routes.

After enjoying the scenery, we begin our descent back to the trailhead and continue to a local restaurant for a well-deserved lunch featuring traditional Andean cuisine.
