In front of Amazon Garden Lodge, there is an island inhabited by a group of monkeys that are accustomed to human presence.
You can get close to them, feed them, and observe their interactions with different species. It’s a beautiful experience with these charming creatures.
Afterward, you will return to the lodge and take a break in the afternoon.
You can enjoy drinks from the bar and relax in hammocks by the Madre de Dios River, where you can witness the sunset in front of Monkey Island.
Search of Caiman (Caiman Spotting)
After settling in, you will board a boat equipped with a float and travel along the riverbank to observe alligators on the beaches. You may also spot other nocturnal animals such as birds and Capybaras, the largest rodents in the world.
At 8:00 a.m., we depart from the lodge by boat, gliding along the Madre de Dios River toward the entrance of Lake Sandoval, a scenic journey of approximately 20 minutes surrounded by pristine rainforest.
Upon arrival, we disembark and take a short walk to the Lake Sandoval control post, where we will register and present our entrance tickets to the Tambopata National Reserve, officially entering one of the most biodiverse protected areas in the Amazon.
We then continue with a 3 km (1.9 miles) guided hike, lasting about 45 minutes, along a well-maintained trail deep in the jungle. Along the way, your guide will point out an impressive variety of Amazonian flora, while keeping an eye out for wildlife. With some luck, you may spot colorful birds, monkeys, rodents, reptiles, amphibians, and a fascinating array of insects and arachnids that call this ecosystem home.

On Day Three, activities begin at 8:30 a.m. at our exceptional accommodation, Amazon Garden Lodge, as we continue our deep exploration of the Amazon rainforest.
We will set off on a three-hour journey, starting with a one-hour boat ride to Puerto Maldonado, followed by a comfortable bus drive along the Interoceanic Highway. From there, we take a quieter scenic route with minimal traffic that leads us to the banks of the Tambopata River.
Awaiting us will be our private boat and experienced river pilot, ready to take us upstream for approximately 30 minutes through one of the most pristine sections of the river. Along the way, keep your eyes open for riverside birds, capybaras, and white caimans basking along the shores.

This walk also provides excellent opportunities to spot monkeys and other mammals living freely in their natural environment.
As dusk approaches, we return to the lodge to collect our flashlights and prepare for an exciting night wildlife excursion. We’ll head out to observe alligators, capybaras, and possibly even a feline predator moving silently along the riverbanks in search of prey.
After a satisfying dinner, those who still have energy and curiosity may join an optional short nocturnal walk near the lodge. This final adventure offers a chance to discover insects, arachnids, tarantulas, and potentially encounter snakes, armadillos, night monkeys, or even tapirs, making for a truly unforgettable Amazonian night.
Deep in the Amazon rainforest of the Madre de Dios region, parrots and parakeets gather each day at natural clay licks, mineral-rich clay walls found along the riverbanks. These unique sites provide vital salts and nutrients that help the birds digest their food and neutralize natural toxins present in the fruits, seeds, and flowers of the jungle.
In the early morning hours, the rainforest comes alive with color and sound as hundreds of parrots and parakeets descend upon the clay walls, creating one of the most spectacular and photogenic wildlife displays in the Amazon.
After witnessing this unforgettable natural phenomenon, we will return to the lodge at approximately 7:00 a.m. to enjoy breakfast.
Following breakfast, we will begin our return journey to Puerto Maldonado, where you will be transferred to the airport or bus terminal in time for your departure, concluding your Amazon adventure with lasting memories of the rainforest’s extraordinary biodiversity.
