Day 1

Fundo Pedrito Visit & Initial Immersion in the Rainforest

Your expedition begins with a personalized pick-up from the airport or your hotel, followed by a guided walking tour through the historic center of Iquitos. During this introduction, you will discover remarkable architectural landmarks from the rubber boom era, including the iconic Casa de Fierro, designed by Gustave Eiffel, as well as the Hotel Palace, Casa Cohen, and Casa Fitzcarraldo.

From our private dock, you will embark on a scenic navigation along the Itaya and Amazon Rivers, taking in panoramic views and passing by the impressive Nanay River Bridge.

Your first excursion takes you to Fundo Pedrito, where you will encounter the legendary paiche (Arapaima gigas), one of the largest freshwater fish in the world, known to reach up to 3 meters in length. You will also observe caimans and the extraordinary Victoria Regia, whose expansive leaves are capable of supporting significant weight.

These rare freshwater mammals are often seen near riverbanks and tributaries, offering a truly memorable encounter. Weather and river conditions permitting, you may also witness a spectacular Amazon sunset, with vibrant hues reflected across the water.

You will also have the opportunity to relax or take a refreshing swim in a safe area of the river, while your guide shares insights into river dynamics and Amazonian navigation.

Afterwards, depart on a boat excursion to a butterfly breeding center, where a specialist will introduce you to the fascinating life cycle of these vibrant species, from egg to caterpillar to butterfly.
