Day 1

Welcome to the Amazon

Your journey kicks off when we collect you from the airport or your accommodation. We’ll begin with a guided stroll through Iquitos’ historic quarter, transporting you back to the prosperous rubber boom days as we visit architectural treasures like the famous Iron House (a Gustave Eiffel creation), the storied Palace Hotel, Casa Cohen, and Casa Fitzcarraldo.

Departing from our exclusive dock, we’ll cruise down the Itaya River toward the magnificent Amazon River, the planet’s mightiest waterway by volume. En route, you’ll see the remarkable Nanay River Bridge, Peru’s longest span, and catch glimpses of traditional river settlements where locals still live in sync with the Amazon’s timeless patterns.

When you reach Cumaceba Amazon Lodge, your jungle sanctuary, you’ll check into your comfortable cabin before savoring a satisfying lunch showcasing authentic local cuisine.
Later in the day, you’ll trek into the untouched rainforest with your guide, learning about healing plants and massive trees, and possibly getting the chance to meet and feed wild squirrel monkeys. If conditions allow, you’ll experience a breathtaking sunset painting the Amazon’s surface.

Following your evening meal, get ready for a thrilling nighttime canoe excursion on the enigmatic Shanshococha Lagoon, where you’ll use flashlights to spot caimans while jungle night sounds fill the air. During the paddle back to the lodge, your guide will enchant you with traditional Amazonian tales, bringing your first extraordinary evening at Cumaceba Amazon Lodge to a close.

Day 2

Fishing, River Dolphins, Wildlife Rescue Center & Nocturnal Mysteries

Start your day early with a sunrise outing to spot Amazonian birdlife in their wild environment. Once you’ve refueled with a hearty breakfast, the real excitement begins!
Try your hand at traditional piranha fishing, going after these famous Amazonian fish along with catfish and sardines. You’ll use age-old local methods that make you feel connected to the river communities who’ve fished these waters for generations.

Then comes the day’s most memorable moment: tracking down the elusive pink and gray river dolphins, mysterious freshwater creatures that rank among the Amazon’s most sought-after wildlife sightings. Head back to the lodge for a buffet-style lunch with regional Amazonian specialties.

Later that afternoon, you’ll tour the Neyser Wildlife Rescue Center, a sanctuary dedicated to animal rehabilitation where you’ll encounter residents living in naturalistic enclosures, including multiple monkey species, charming sloths, and other native creatures.

Once evening falls and dinner wraps up, set out on a guided night trek through the rainforest with flashlights in hand, seeking out frogs, tarantulas, and nocturnal insects while the sounds of the tropical jungle create an all-encompassing soundtrack. This multi-sensory adventure unveils the forest’s secretive after-dark world.

Day 3

The Hoatzin & Yagua Indigenous Community

Kick off your morning with a canoe journey across Shansho Lagoon to witness the remarkable and brilliantly colored Hoatzin (Shansho), an ancient bird species found only in the Amazon. Make your way back to the lodge for breakfast.
Following your meal, dive into Amazonian traditions with a trip to the Yagua Indigenous Community. You’ll experience their customary attire, time-honored dances, native language, and handmade crafts. A standout moment is getting hands-on instruction with the blowgun, an age-old Amazonian hunting instrument. Head back to the lodge to enjoy lunch.
When it’s time to depart, you’ll start your return trip to Iquitos. We’ll arrange transportation to the airport via private car or, for a genuinely local touch, to your hotel in a charming motokar, Iquitos’ iconic three-wheeled taxi, as you carry home treasured memories of your Amazon adventure.
