Day 1: Cusco, Urubamba or Ollantaytambo – Sicuani – Langui Lagoon – Pallay Punchu Mountain – Cusco – Urubamba or Ollantaytambo
Your Pallay Punchu adventure begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Cusco, Urubamba, or Ollantaytambo. We travel through the heart of the Peruvian Andes, passing picturesque villages, rolling farmlands, and dramatic mountain landscapes on our journey toward the Canas Province, home to the spectacular Pallay Punchu Mountain.
Along the route, we stop for a nourishing breakfast before continuing toward the shores of the beautiful Langui Lagoon, one of the most scenic high-altitude lakes in southern Peru. Surrounded by breathtaking Andean scenery, this peaceful lagoon serves as the gateway to our hike.
Upon reaching the trailhead, we begin our ascent to Pallay Punchu Mountain. The trail climbs through colorful hillsides and rugged ridgelines, offering increasingly impressive views of the turquoise waters of Langui Lagoon and the surrounding snow-capped peaks. As you gain elevation, the mountain’s famous multicolored formations gradually come into view, creating one of the most unique landscapes in the Cusco region.
After approximately 1 to 1.5 hours of hiking, we arrive at the main viewpoint of Pallay Punchu (4,791 m / 15,718 ft). Here, you will have ample time to explore, take photographs, and admire the mountain’s striking red, pink, orange, and ochre-colored ridges that resemble a traditional Andean woven poncho. The panoramic views of the Andes and Langui Lagoon make this one of Peru’s most rewarding hidden gems.
After enjoying the summit and surrounding viewpoints, we descend back to the trailhead and head to a local restaurant for a delicious lunch. Following lunch, we begin our scenic return journey to Cusco, Urubamba, or Ollantaytambo, arriving in the evening with unforgettable memories of one of the Andes’ most remarkable natural wonders.
