Upon arrival, you will be warmly received by our local staff and transferred to the river dock. From there, you will board a motorized boat for a scenic 30-minute journey along the Madre de Dios River, arriving at your accommodation: the Amazon Garden Lodge, located deep in the Tambopata jungle.

After check-in and a short rest, you will begin your first guided experiences inside the Tambopata National Reserve.

Canopy Walk

A short 200-meter walk from the lodge leads to a 35-meter-high canopy tower built around the iconic Lupuna tree, one of the Amazon’s most impressive giants.

From the top, enjoy panoramic views of the rainforest and observe diverse tropical bird species while your guide shares insights into the region’s rich biodiversity.

Ziplining Adventure

Continue with an adrenaline-filled zipline experience. After a safety briefing, glide across a 190-meter zipline through the jungle canopy, followed by a 100-meter suspension bridge crossing, before returning to the starting point.

Lunch & Relaxation

Return to the lodge to enjoy a traditional Amazon-style lunch. Afterwards, relax in hammocks surrounded by the natural sounds of the rainforest.

Kayaking Experience

In the afternoon, join a guided kayaking activity along the Madre de Dios River. All safety equipment is provided, and a support boat accompanies the group at all times.

You will also have the opportunity to swim in the calm waters of the river for a refreshing Amazon experience.

Monkey Island Visit

Later, take a short 15-minute boat ride to Monkey Island, home to species such as capuchin monkeys, black monkeys (Cebus apella), and white monkeys (Cebus albifrons).

Together with your guide, observe their natural behavior in a protected and semi-wild environment.

Sunset & Caiman Night Safari

Return to the Amazon Garden Lodge around 4:30 PM to enjoy a peaceful Amazon sunset.

After dinner, embark on a night boat safari equipped with spotlights to search for caimans along the riverbanks, including white and dwarf caimans, whose glowing eyes can be seen in the dark.

Around 7:30 PM, return to the lodge for dinner and rest, immersed in the sounds of the Amazon rainforest.

DAY 2

Lake Sandoval & Night Jungle Walk | Amazon Garden Lodge

You will begin the day immersed in the natural symphony of the Amazon rainforest, followed by a freshly prepared breakfast at the Amazon Garden Lodge. The meal includes tropical fruits, eggs, pancakes, fried plantains, and freshly brewed Peruvian coffee.

At approximately 09:30 AM, you will board a boat to cross the river and arrive at the park control post, where local authorities complete visitor registration. From there, you will begin a 3-kilometer guided hike (around 1 hour) through primary rainforest toward Lake Sandoval, one of the most pristine and protected areas within the Tambopata National Reserve.

Along the trail, your guide will help you interpret the rich biodiversity of the jungle, with opportunities to observe wildlife such as monkeys, exotic birds, and, in some cases, giant river otters.

Upon arrival at Lake Sandoval, you will enjoy lunch surrounded by the natural beauty of the rainforest. Afterwards, you will explore the lake by traditional rowing canoe, navigating its calm waters in search of wildlife.

This ecosystem is home to species such as hoatzins, cormorants, and anhingas, and occasionally the iconic giant river otters, often referred to as the “river wolves” of the Amazon. After this immersive exploration, you will return to the lodge.

In the evening, around 06:30 PM, you will take part in a guided night jungle walk, where your expert guide will introduce you to the nocturnal world of the Amazon, including insects, frogs, and other hidden species that emerge after dark.

By approximately 07:30 PM, you will return to the Amazon Garden Lodge for dinner and a peaceful night, surrounded by the natural sounds of the jungle.

DAY 3

Native Community Visit – Fishing Experience – Amazon Garden Lodge

You will start the day with a freshly prepared Amazon-style breakfast at the Amazon Garden Lodge, immersed in the natural sounds of the rainforest.

At approximately 08:00 AM, you will begin a guided excursion to a nearby indigenous community, offering an authentic insight into their traditional lifestyle and cultural heritage.

During the visit, you will meet a local family who preserves ancestral customs, hunting techniques, and deep-rooted Amazonian traditions. You will learn about their daily activities, survival knowledge, and spiritual connection with the forest. The community is also known for its handmade crafts, which are available for purchase as a way to directly support their livelihoods.

After this cultural experience, you will continue by boat to a nearby river area for a traditional fishing activity. Depending on the season, you may catch species such as catfish, sardines, or piranhas.

You will then return to the Amazon Garden Lodge, where our chef will prepare your fresh catch for lunch, seasoned with traditional Amazonian ingredients.

In the afternoon, enjoy free time to relax in the lodge, rest in hammocks, or take a short guided walk around the surrounding jungle. During this exploration, your guide will introduce you to medicinal plants, insects, and hidden wildlife that often go unnoticed.

In the evening, a freshly prepared dinner will be served at the lodge, followed by a peaceful night surrounded by the sounds of the Amazon rainforest.

DAY 4

Parrot Clay Lick – Cachuela – Return to Puerto Maldonado – Flight to Lima

Your final day at the Amazon Garden Lodge begins early with a serene boat journey through the rainforest to the renowned Parrot Clay Lick (Collpa de Loros). Upon arrival, you will settle in and witness the breathtaking sunrise activity as flocks of parrots and parakeets gather along the clay walls to feed on essential minerals.

This natural spectacle offers the opportunity to observe a variety of species, including blue-headed parrots, macaws, parakeets, and other vibrant Amazonian birds in their natural habitat. You will have approximately one hour to enjoy, photograph, and fully experience this remarkable wildlife display as the jungle comes alive with sound and color.

After returning to the Amazon Garden Lodge around 07:00 AM, you will enjoy your final Amazon breakfast before continuing your journey back downstream.
