Itinerary
DAY 1

Puerto Maldonado - Monkey Island - Spotting Caiman

Upon arrival at the airport or bus station, we will greet our traveler and transport them to our Peru Amazon Lodge office for registration.

From there, we will proceed to the pier where we will board a boat for a 45-minute journey to the hotel. As a welcome gesture, guests will be served a refreshing juice made from local fruits, while our guide provides information about the hotel’s policies. Once we reach the hotel, we will settle into our assigned rooms.

After a pleasant rest, we will visit Monkey Island, situated in the middle of the Madre de Dios River, just a few minutes away from our hotel.

This island is home to various species of monkeys, including a hybrid species. With any luck, we may also spot sloths and turtles. We will then return to the hotel for lunch.

Following a delicious meal and a short siesta, we will embark on a two-hour hike through the dense tropical forest. Accompanied by a knowledgeable local guide, we will explore the trails, encountering a diverse array of medicinal plants and ancient trees that are over six hundred years old.

Throughout the hike, there will be ample opportunities to observe wildlife such as monkeys, parrots, macaws, squirrels, reptiles, insects, frogs, arachnids, and more. Immerse yourself in the vibrant energy of the jungle and experience magical moments within the Tambopata National Reserve.

At nightfall, we will take a boat excursion along the Madre de Dios River to search for nocturnal creatures that inhabit its banks.

This is an excellent opportunity to spot alligators of varying sizes, owls, nightjars, and, if we’re fortunate, the capybara, the largest rodent in the world. We will return to the hotel for dinner.

DAY 2

Amazon Garden Lodge - Sandoval Lake - Puerto Maldonado

One of the optimal periods to observe abundant wildlife is during sunrise or sunset. In our case, we opted to depart at daybreak in our boat towards Sandoval Lake, situated within the Tambopata National Reserve.

Experiencing the thriving biodiversity of Sandoval Lake is truly unparalleled. To reach the lake, we traverse a wooden path that spans approximately 3 km (1.8 miles).

Throughout the journey, we are consistently amazed by the diverse fauna that inhabits this area. Upon reaching the end of the path, we encounter a small dock where we board a rowboat to embark on our tour of Lake Sandoval.

During this excursion, we have the opportunity to spot various species such as black caimans, giant otters, herons, turtles, monkeys, macaws, wild ducks, and much more. We return to the lodge in time for lunch, return to Puerto Maldonado and Drop you off at the Airport or Bus Terminal.
