DAY 1

Puerto Maldonado - Amazon Garden Lodge - Kayaking Monkey island - Search of Caimans & Capibaras

Upon arrival you will be greeted by our AMAZON GARDEN LODGE representative.

We will visit the Plaza de Armas, where we will take some photos, where we will appreciate the fusion of two important rivers: Madre de Dios and Tambopata.

We will embark on a 40-minute boat trip from Puerto Triunfo to reach our Amazon Garden Lodge, sailing along the Madre de Dios River in a typical boat found in the Amazon jungle.

When we arrive we will have a welcome meeting where we will enjoy a fruit juice from the jungle, then we will take a kayak tour and visit Monkey Island.

For the safety of your trip, there will always be a boat accompanying the group. We will be able to immerse ourselves in the waters of the Madre de Dios River.

In front of  PERU AMAZON GARDEN LODGE, we can see an island inhabited by a group of monkeys accustomed to human presence. Here we can get up close and feed the monkeys, in a charming experience.

Then we will return to our Amazon Garden Lodge accommodation to rest and have some refreshing drinks with stunning views of the Amazon.

At night there is the possibility of seeing other nocturnal animals such as birds and capybaras, which happen to be the largest rodents in the world.

Finally, we will enjoy a satisfying dinner and have a restful night.

DAY 2

Amazon Garden Lodge - Sandoval Lake - Night Walk -Amazon Garden Lodge

At 8:00 am our 5-Day Tambopata Tour to Lake Sandoval begins. We will take a short 20-minute boat ride along the Madre de Dios River that takes us to the entrance of the lake.

When we arrive we will take a walk to the Lake Sandoval checkpoint to register tickets, since it is located within the Tambopata National Reserve. Then we will take a 3 km walk that lasts approximately 45 minutes, here we will appreciate wildlife such as: birds, monkeys, rodents, arachnids, insects, reptiles and amphibians.

When we reach the shores of the lake we will take a refreshing swim in its crystalline waters and enjoy a typical jungle lunch.

We board a rowboat to explore the lake, searching for various species of birds such as hoatzines, cormorants, anhingas, and the elusive river otters, known as the highlight of Lake Sandoval.

In the afternoon, after prior agreement with your guide, we will leave the lake to return to the shore of the Madre de Dios River, where a boat is waiting to transport you to the AMAZON GARDEN LODGE. For those interested, an overnight hike is available, followed by dinner and an overnight stay at the lodge.

This unique experience offers a glimpse into the customs of indigenous communities, providing a wonderful opportunity to directly connect with a family rooted in ancient traditions of warriors and hunters.

Additionally, it allows us to support them financially by purchasing some of the handmade products they create.

Traditional fishing at Tambopata Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick 5 days

Later in the day, we will continue with our next activity. We will board a boat and navigate to a ravine where we will engage in a rustic fishing experience, targeting fish such as catfish, maiden, sardines, or piranhas. Return to the lodge, enjoy dinner, and rest.

DAY 4

Amazon Garden Lodge - Upper Tambopata - Night Walk

Our journey starts at 8:30 AM at the AMAZON GARDEN LODGE. We will begin a 3-hour trip, with 1 hour by boat to Puerto Maldonado and a 2-hour drive along the interoceanic highway, followed by a quieter road that takes us to the shores of the Tambopata River.

At that location, our boat and driver will be prepared to take us further on our river journey, traveling upstream for about 30 minutes until we arrive at our Lodge.

On the boat ride, we’ll be able to see different riverside birds, capybaras, and white caimans.

Upon reaching the Lodge, we will receive a welcome beverage and a short summary of the services offered during our visit. Once we get comfortable in our rooms, we can stroll around to discover and get to know the area.

After an enjoyable lunch, we will take a brief pause before starting a guided stroll through a main forest, which houses old trees. Throughout this journey, we’ll discover the key economic activities in our area, including agriculture, mining, lumbering, chestnut harvesting (Brazil nut), and ecotourism.

Moreover, we will get the chance to see monkeys and other mammals in their natural environments.

As the sun starts to go down, we will head back to the Lodge to get our flashlights. We will proceed to watch alligators, capybaras, and perhaps some cats that might be around the river, actively hunting for their food at night.

After a delightful dinner, for those still craving adventure, we can take a brief night walk to look for insects, arachnids, tarantulas, and, hopefully, some snakes, armadillos, night monkeys, or tapirs near the Lodge

DAY 5

Lodge - Upper Tambopata Macaw clay Lick - Lodge - Puerto Maldonado

On this day, we will wake up early and start our journey upstream at 4:30 am, with a lovely cup of coffee in hand.

The serene boat journey will provide us unique entry to the stunning sunrise as we sail through the beautiful scenery of the Tambopata National Reserve.

By chance, there exists a 20% chance of spotting a jaguar or possibly an anaconda near the riverbanks.

Upon arriving at our location, we will be presented with a mesmerizing display of parrots and macaws, allowing us to see for ourselves why these birds, along with various other mammals, depend on the clay from the adjacent wall as an essential component of their diet all year round.

This remarkable showcase will enchant us from around 6:00 am until 11:00 am. We will enjoy a tasty breakfast with a view of the Collpa Chuncho (Macaws Clay Lick).

Once we finish our activities here, we will pay a quick visit to the checkpoint, where we can check out a small museum to broaden our understanding. Afterward, we will head to our lodging to savor a delightful lunch and enjoy a much-deserved break.

Subsequently, we will have the chance to explore the Quebrada el Gato waterfall, where we can enjoy a refreshing dip and discover different crops grown in the rich soil of Madre de Dios.

As the afternoon nears, we will take a twenty-minute canoe trip downstream, then a two-hour truck ride back to Puerto Maldonado
